PC President, Jeff Mencke, OPC Treasurer, Dottie King, Jason Hitch and Chris of Hitch Pork Producers, and OPC executive director, Roy Lee Lindsey, attend the August 27 workshop on livestock competition.

Jeff and Dottie at workshop_1.jpgThe meeting, hosted by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Department of Justice drew a large crowd and many diverse opinions. We bring several of those opinions to you in this edition of E-Pork Partner.
Ron Hays of the Radio Oklahoma Network caught up with both Dottie and Jeff at the workshop and you can click here to catch their comments.

To summarize, here are a couple of comments from Jeff and Dottie.

“We are afraid this could take away our freedom to enter into contracts with our integrator without USDA supervision,” said Dottie King.

“Roberts Ranch of Oklahoma has a partnership with a packing plant in St. Louis, Mo. That relationship could be affected by this proposed rule because we would have to open up our agreement on how we pay for animals based on quality and be subject to litigation on that schedule,” said Jeff Mencke.

Ron also caught up with Roy Lee in his studio this week to record an interview for a podcast, click here to listen, about the workshop and GIPSA rule. Also, this Saturday morning, September 4, you can catch Roy Lee and Ron during News 9′s In the Field segment. They will discuss the competition workshop and the GIPSA proposed rule.
