Oklahoma pork producers attend workshop on livestock competition
PC President, Jeff Mencke, OPC Treasurer, Dottie King, Jason Hitch and Chris of Hitch Pork Producers, and OPC executive director, Roy Lee Lindsey, attend the August 27 workshop on livestock competition.
The meeting, hosted by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Department of Justice drew a large crowd and many diverse opinions. We bring several of those opinions to you in this edition of E-Pork Partner. To summarize, here are a couple of comments from Jeff and Dottie.
“We are afraid this could take away our freedom to enter into contracts with our integrator without USDA supervision,” said Dottie King.
“Roberts Ranch of Oklahoma has a partnership with a packing plant in St. Louis, Mo. That relationship could be affected by this proposed rule because we would have to open up our agreement on how we pay for animals based on quality and be subject to litigation on that schedule,” said Jeff Mencke.
