Copenhagen is set to host a pivotal event for the global pig industry, focusing on the future of sustainable pig feed. The Danish Agriculture & Food Council Pig Research Centre, in collaboration with SEGES Innovation, will gather experts from around the world on November 20-21, 2024, for a conference aimed at advancing sustainable practices in pig production.
Christian Fink Hansen, Sector Director for the Agriculture & Food Council Pig Research Centre, emphasized the urgency of the event, stating, “We have an imperative agenda in the pig industry: We must make pig production more sustainable.” This summit is poised to be a critical platform for sharing the latest research, networking with industry leaders, and exploring innovative approaches to pig feed sustainability.
The conference will feature 28 oral presentations from prominent figures in the field, including Jason Clay of WWF, Laura Nobel from the Global Feed LCA Institute, and Asbjørn Børsting of The European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation. Jason Clay, a keynote speaker, will address the carbon footprint of meat and discuss how the livestock and feed industries can tackle the challenges posed by climate change.
“There are no silver bullets. Understanding how to think about solutions and where and how producers, and the industry more broadly, can scale solutions more quickly is critical,” Clay noted, highlighting the importance of strategic thinking in addressing these issues.
The event is not just about learning; it’s also about connecting. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with researchers, companies, and policymakers, fostering partnerships that could drive the industry towards a more sustainable future.
Key topics to be covered at the summit include:
- Sustainable feed production for future pig farming.
- Improved nutrient utilization in pig feed.
- Sustainable protein sources for pig feed in the future.
- Inventory methods and documentation for sustainability.
The conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers, providing a state-of-the-art venue for this important discussion. For more information on the agenda and speakers, visit the conference website.
