Smithfield Foods Fire Sends One to Hospital, Causes Minor Damage

A fire at the Smithfield Foods Patrick Cudahy plant in Wisconsin on Saturday morning sent one person to the hospital and caused minor damage, according to the Cudahy Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly before 7:30 a.m. following reports of smoke on the building’s third and fourth floors. Upon arrival, crews located the source of the smoke: a machine on the fourth floor.

The building’s sprinkler system successfully contained the fire, and firefighters extinguished it shortly after. Damage was limited to the machinery involved, and one individual was transported to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation.
