In the fast-paced world of swine production, the supply chain is only as strong as the people behind the scenes who keep it running. For Chris Renihan, Dispatcher for Iowa Select Farms, that means navigating the daily complexities of feeder pig movements, cull load schedules, and last-minute changes with precision and dedication.
“Things go right 90% of the time,” Chris says, “but it’s that 10%—the last-minute changes, rearranging drivers, and troubleshooting issues—that keeps us on our toes.” After 15 years in the role, he has become a critical force in ensuring the production system flows smoothly.
An Early Start to Keep Operations on Track
Chris is often the first to arrive at the office—starting his day at 5:30 a.m. to oversee key inner sanctum loads and coordinate hundreds of pig movements each week. With 30 to 40 drivers on the road daily, he has insight into multiple departments, working closely with transportation teams, farm managers, and logistics personnel to get every load to its destination safely and on time.
The Passion Behind the Role
Despite the challenges, Chris credits his longevity to the people around him. “I appreciate the team I work alongside,” he shares. His attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and positive attitude have made him an essential part of Iowa Select Farms’ success.
For 15 years and counting, Chris has played a vital role in ensuring that Iowa Select Farms’ operations remain efficient and reliable. His dedication to keeping everything running behind the scenes showcases the importance of experienced professionals in swine production logistics.
Congratulations, Chris, on this incredible milestone! Your hard work and commitment keep the industry moving forward.
