South Dakota Swine Summit: Educating the Next Generation of Industry Leaders

The South Dakota Swine Summit, set for June 12, 2025, at South Dakota State University (SDSU), offers a unique opportunity for young people interested in the swine industry. Open to youth ages 12-21, the event is designed to educate participants on key aspects of swine production, including biosecurity, nutrition, animal evaluation, showmanship, daily care, and carcass evaluation.

A Hands-On Learning Experience

Attendees will have the chance to tour SDSU’s Swine Education and Research Facility, gaining firsthand exposure to cutting-edge practices in swine production. The summit’s educational sessions will be led by industry experts and university specialists, ensuring participants receive practical and science-based insights into swine management.

Biosecurity Best Practices – Understanding disease prevention and farm safety.
Swine Nutrition – Learning how proper diets impact growth and efficiency.
Animal Evaluation & Showmanship – Developing skills for show pigs and livestock judging.
