The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the recall notice for several products produced by Pavao Meats & Deli Ltd. under the European Butcher brand. The affected products include Canadian back bacon half, Canadian back bacon chunks, and sliced Canadian back bacon.
Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators and freezers for these recalled products. The CFIA strongly recommends that consumers discard the affected back bacon or return it to the place of purchase. Although the CFIA did not specify the amount of product being recalled, they urge anyone who believes they have consumed the contaminated bacon and are feeling unwell to contact their healthcare provider immediately.
Symptoms of Listeria infection can range from mild to severe, including muscle aches, nausea, neck stiffness, persistent fever, severe headaches, and vomiting. In extreme cases, Listeria can be fatal, particularly for vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The CFIA continues to monitor the situation closely and encourages all consumers to follow food safety guidelines to protect themselves and their families.
