Highlights
- Porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) has returned to Manitoba.
- African Swine Fever (ASF) continues to spread through Germany’s domestic herd.
- CWSHIN has developed a new Epidemiologic Surveillance Report, using data that will inform future updates for producers.
Disease updates

- Seven swine premises in Manitoba’s High-Risk Area and two swine premises in the South Central Buffer Area have been confirmed to have PED.
- Four German farms have been infected with ASF since last year, including an additional case reported this month in a new region of the country.
Biosecurity
- Beware high-traffic areas off-farm that could spread disease. Abattoirs and assembly yards see many trucks full of pigs from many different areas, making them a potential hotbed for transmission.
- Not sure if the clinical signs in your herd are ASF or something else? Rule-out testing under the CanSpotASF surveillance program, though your herd veterinarian, could help bring peace of mind.
- If you see diarrhea, contact your herd practitioner for a disease investigation.
