Swine Web is thrilled to announce seven significant remodels for ISOWEAN sow facilities, ranging from 1300 to 1500 sows, in Montana. These projects represent substantial upgrades to our facilities, enhancing productivity and animal welfare.
Montana Hutterites have long been key players in the region’s hog industry, contributing significantly to its development and sustainability. Their commitment to innovation and excellence in swine production is evident among this tight-knit community.
Description: Midway Colony has undergone a comprehensive upgrade, transforming from Farrow to Finish into an ISO wean facility. Previously not Prop 12 compliant, the barn was in need of significant updates. The decision to remodel in Montana was driven by the increasing reach of PRRS into the Midwest, including Montana. Without Prop 12 compliance, the barn was at risk of being deemed salvage. We originally populated the barn in 2007.
Quote from David Hofer (“Shorty”): “The comprehensive upgrade at Midway Colony is crucial for adapting to current industry standards and ensuring the health and welfare of our sows. By transitioning to an ISO wean facility and addressing Prop 12 compliance, we are not only improving our operations but also safeguarding against the spread of PRRS. Our commitment to innovation and excellence drives us to make these necessary changes to stay ahead in the industry. Additionally, we are building a new boar stud to further enhance our biosecurity measures.”
