“The Crystal Spring Way: Proven Results and Proven Products”
“Prove it” …those were the words we heard when we introduced the original Wet/Dry shelf feeder to the pork industry 40 years ago. Proving that our solutions bring value, improve production management, and increase profitability for our customers is what we have been doing ever since.
Over the years, we have gathered a lot of performance data of our feeders from commercial production facilities, as well as field and university trials. We have published some of that data to two different booklets for our customers to review:
- Wet/Dry Finishing Feeder Performance Research: this booklet summarizes the performance of Crystal Spring Wet/Dry feeders compared to conventional dry feeders.
- Wet/Dry Wean-to-Finish Feeder Performance Research: this booklet reviews and summarizes how our wean-to-finish feeders perform compared to dry feeders and tube feeders.
In addition, we looked to prove our feeder management recommendations. In 2018, we sanctioned a study to gather data on the number of pigs per feeder space and pen stocking density and their impact on performance. In their article, Effects of Wet/Dry Feeder and Pen Stocking Density on Grow-Finish Pig Performance, Dr. Marvin E. Wastell (Gro Master, Inc), Dr. Cesar A.P. Garbossa (School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science – University of Sao Paulo), and Dr. Allan P. Schinckel (Animal Science Department, Purdue University) write about the study showing the economic return on a production system when varying the number of pigs per feeder space and the pigs’ floor space allowance.
To sum it all up, “Proving It” is a huge part of our brand and is what makes us different. We are always interested in learning and making a better product for pork producers. Do we know it all? Hardly. Many times it seems we are just scratching the surface. But do we know more than we did 40 years ago? Absolutely.
None of us at Crystal Spring are satisfied, that is why we will continue to “Prove It” in the future!
