Chef Jessica Baldus of Osage has been crowned champion of the 38th and final Taste event hosted by the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA). Chef Jessica’s exquisite Mangalitsa Estates pork tenderloin fillet earned her top honors and a $5,000 prize during the prestigious culinary competition held on January 20, 2025, at the Iowa Events Center.
The Taste event, which has celebrated Iowa’s professional chefs and the versatility of pork for nearly four decades, marked its final chapter with a showcase of exceptional culinary artistry. Chef Jessica’s chowder-inspired dish highlighted the unique qualities of Mangalitsa Estates pork and left attendees and judges alike in awe.
A Celebratory Farewell to Taste
“This event has always been about celebrating Iowa pork and the incredible talent of our chefs,” said Kelsey Sutter, Marketing Programs Director for IPPA. “Chef Jessica’s winning dish exemplifies the innovation and creativity we have seen over the years. It’s a fitting conclusion to such a cherished tradition.”
Chef Jessica shared her excitement after receiving the top prize:
“This is really exciting. My heart is pounding. The pork itself was the star, and I wanted to make sure it was front and center. I was inspired by Mangalitsa Estates’ pork and knew it would be perfect for this event.”
A Lasting Impact on Iowa’s Culinary Scene
The Taste event provided attendees with an opportunity to sample and vote for their favorite dishes, celebrating the bond between Iowa agriculture and the culinary arts. Although this marks the final Taste competition, the IPPA aims to continue inspiring Iowa restaurants to feature innovative and delicious pork dishes.
