Iowa Pork Producers Association Announces 2025 Iowa Pork Youth Leadership Team

The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) proudly introduces the members of the 2025 Iowa Pork Youth Leadership Team, selected during last week’s Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines. Representing the future of the pork industry, Amanda Ostrem of Stanhope, Calla Langel of Le Mars, and Brady Allan of Le Mars will serve as advocates for pork production across Iowa and beyond throughout the year.

Amanda Ostrem, a sophomore at Des Moines Area Community College, has been named the 2025 Iowa Pork Queen. She will be joined by Iowa Pork Ambassadors Calla Langel and Brady Allan. These three individuals demonstrated exceptional knowledge of pork production, strong communication skills, and a deep commitment to agriculture during the selection process. Each winner will receive a $4,000 scholarship along with a commemorative plaque recognizing their achievements.

The IPPA Youth Leadership Team contest evaluates candidates on multiple criteria, including a written test on pork industry topics, individual interviews, and formal presentations. Judges also assess candidates’ previous community involvement and experience in the industry. The highest-scoring female contestant earns the title of Iowa Pork Queen, while the next two highest-scoring individuals serve as youth ambassadors.

Additionally, several other contestants received recognition and $200 scholarships for their participation:

  • Grace England, Winterset
  • Owen Koester, Gladbrook
  • Allie Kruse, Cherokee
  • Haley Lampe, Fort Madison
  • Trudy Locke, Manchester
  • Kylee Reed, Ottumwa
  • Mackenzie Thiele, Elma
  • Katie Vogel, Lohrville

Throughout 2025, the Youth Leadership Team will engage in various industry events, including county fairs, community activities, the Iowa State Fair, and the World Pork Expo. These events provide valuable opportunities for team members to develop leadership skills, network within the industry, and share their passion for pork production with the public.

“As Iowa Pork Queen, I look forward to advocating for and educating people about the pork industry across the state,” said Ostrem. “This industry is the backbone of Iowa, and I am excited to help others see its incredible impact and importance.”
