According to Eurostat data, the European Union’s pigmeat production fell to 20.6 million tonnes in 2023, marking an 11.8% decrease from its 2021 peak. Spain and Germany remain the largest producers, with Spain accounting for 4.9 million tonnes and Germany producing 4.2 million tonnes. However, production has declined across major EU countries, including sharp drops in Denmark (-19.9%) and the Netherlands (-13.1%). These trends highlight shifting dynamics in the EU’s livestock sector as producers face challenges in maintaining output.
