After a year-long delay caused by labor shortages and financial projections, Fair Oaks Foods has announced that construction of its $134 million bacon processing facility in Davenport, Iowa, is back on track. The project, which broke ground in the summer of 2022, had been put on hold but is now moving forward, with adjusted timelines for completion being set by both the company and the city.
The new 150,000-square-foot facility is expected to create 250 jobs and significantly enhance Fair Oaks Foods’ production capabilities. Known for its wide variety of protein products, including bacon, meatballs, pork, and turkey sausage, Fair Oaks Foods is a family-owned business that supplies foodservice, national grocery chains, and quick-service restaurants. The Davenport facility will allow the company to expand into fully cooked bacon production, further strengthening its market presence.
Originally slated for completion in early 2023, the plant is projected to have an annual economic impact of $182 million on the Quad Cities area, according to a news release from the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce.
Fair Oaks Foods’ expansion marks a significant step for both the company and the local economy, as the facility will not only bolster job creation but also support the region’s standing as a hub for protein processing and innovation in the pork industry.
