Illinois Pig Breeder and Showman Inducted into Wisconsin Hall of Fame

A longtime pig breeder and showman now in the Wisconsin Pork Association’s Hall of Fame.

This year’s inductor is the late Robert Ellingson, who has been involved in breeding and showing pigs since 1965 at the family farm near Poplar Grove, Illinois, just south of the Wisconsin border east of Rockford.

In conjunction with the Wisconsin State Fair, Kenneth Luetti presented a plaque to Ellingson’s family on Saturday. “This will be the 30th year we’ve done this, so the pork producers sponsor it and the Hall of Fame members really decide who is the lucky recipient each year.”

Robert’s son Mike Ellingson says his father died on April 4, 47 years after showing pigs at the Wisconsin and Illinois state fairs.
