At the recent U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) Strategic Planning Conference in Tucson, Arizona, Homero Recio, USMEF’s Latin America Representative, shared exciting updates about the promotion of U.S. red meat in South America. Among the highlights was the successful launch of a U.S. pork burger in Colombia, a product crafted from the Boston butt with support from the USDA and the National Pork Board.
Unlike traditional burgers made from trimmings, the Boston butt burger offers a unique flavor profile and higher quality, which has quickly made it a hit in Colombia’s food scene. Recio noted that the product’s superior taste and texture have set it apart, contributing to its popularity with consumers.
The success in Colombia has spurred plans to introduce a variation of the Boston butt burger in Chile, expanding the reach of U.S. pork products in South America and further boosting demand for high-quality, American pork.
This initiative underscores the continued efforts of the U.S. pork industry to innovate and connect with global markets, building on strategic partnerships and leveraging resources to enhance export opportunities.
