Iowa State Cyclone football players Stevo Klotz and Xavier Hamilton are aiming to add their names to the popular ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ promotion. The Iowa Pork Producers Association has been seeking more Iowa State student-athletes to join their NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) partnership, which encourages Iowans to consume more pork products.
Klotz, a senior tight end from Chaska, Minn., and Hamilton, a freshman defensive lineman from Bettendorf, Iowa, are the latest Cyclones to participate in tryouts for the campaign. They hope to join Myles Purchase, Tyler Moore, Tommy Hamann, Caleb Bacon, Alec Cook, and Zachary Lovett in the ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ initiative. Launched last September, the promotion quickly went viral across social media, garnered national media attention, and was named the Best NIL Deal of 2023.
Will Klotz and Hamilton secure a spot on the ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ roster? They put their creativity to the test in an attempt to make their names fit the theme. Watch the video to see their tryouts and the judges’ reactions.
“I had a feeling it would be something along the lines of a play on words,” Klotz said. “I think it fits well, and I find it funny how our names seem perfect for various scenarios to promote pork. It all just clicks, and it’s fun to hang out with the guys.”
In a series of videos released every Monday at 10 a.m. through October 7, Purchase, Moore, Hamann, and Bacon will continue to serve as judges, as other student-athletes compete for a place on the pork roster. October is National Pork Month, also known as ‘Porktober.’
In conjunction with the NIL partnership, the Iowa Pork Producers Association is donating $1,000 worth of pork to each participant’s chosen food bank or pantry to help combat food insecurity.
“The ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ promotion is a fantastic opportunity to ensure much-needed protein is provided to families, individuals, and seniors who struggle with food insecurity,” said Linda Gorkow, Executive Director of the Iowa Food Bank Association. “Protein is one of the most requested items at food banks and pantries statewide, so every ounce of pork donated will have a significant impact.”
The updated list of food banks and pantries receiving $1,000 worth of pork includes:
- Food Bank of the Rockies in Denver, Colo., in the name of Myles Purchase
- Food Bank of Iowa in Des Moines, Iowa, in the name of Tyler Moore
- Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners in Plymouth, Minn., in the name of Tommy Hamann
