AASV Recognizes Industry Leaders at Annual Meeting

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) honored six distinguished members for their exceptional contributions to the association and the swine industry during its 56th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California. Dr. Mary Battrell, 2021 AASV president and 2025 Awards Selection Committee chair, introduced the awardees during the March 3, 2025, awards reception.

Swine Practitioner of the Year: Dr. Bryan Myers

Dr. Bryan Myers received the 2025 Swine Practitioner of the Year award, recognizing his outstanding proficiency and effectiveness in delivering veterinary services to clients. A 1988 graduate of Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Myers completed the Executive Veterinary Program in Swine Medicine at the University of Illinois in 1993. He practices at Pipestone Veterinary Services, providing health management and consultation to some of the largest swine producers and production systems in the United States. Dr. Myers is known for his dedication to helping farmers and his significant contributions to swine health and production.

Howard Dunne Memorial Award: Dr. Jeremy Pittman

The Howard Dunne Memorial Award was presented to Dr. Jeremy Pittman for his noteworthy contributions and outstanding service to the AASV and the swine industry. Dr. Pittman earned his DVM from North Carolina State University in 2001 and has been actively involved in swine veterinary practice and research. He is recognized for his commitment to advancing swine health and his leadership within the veterinary community.

Meritorious Service Award: Dr. Maria Pieters

Dr. Maria Pieters received the Meritorious Service Award, honoring her outstanding service to the AASV. Dr. Pieters is an associate professor at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, where she leads research efforts in swine mycoplasmal diseases. Her dedication to research and education has significantly contributed to the understanding and management of swine diseases.

Young Swine Veterinarian of the Year: Dr. Jessica Seate

The AASV recognized Dr. Jessica Seate as the Young Swine Veterinarian of the Year, awarded to an AASV member five or fewer years post-graduation who has demonstrated the ideals of exemplary service and proficiency. Dr. Seate graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018 and has quickly become a respected professional in swine veterinary medicine. Her dedication to animal health and welfare exemplifies the qualities of this award.

Technical Services/Allied Industry Veterinarian of the Year: Dr. Paul Yeske

Dr. Paul Yeske was honored as the Technical Services/Allied Industry Veterinarian of the Year for his significant contributions to the swine industry. A 1985 graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Yeske is a senior partner at the Swine Vet Center in St. Peter, Minnesota. His expertise and dedication have greatly benefited swine production and health management.

Outstanding Swine Academic of the Year: Dr. Locke Karriker

Dr. Locke Karriker received the Outstanding Swine Academic of the Year award, recognizing his excellence in teaching, research, and service to the swine industry. Dr. Karriker is a professor at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and serves as the director of the Swine Medicine Education Center.
