Alltech Welcomes Dr. Jamil Faccin as New Swine Technical and Nutrition Specialist
Alltech is excited to announce the addition of Dr. Jamil Faccin to its U.S. Pork team as a swine technical and nutrition specialist. Dr. Faccin, who recently completed his Ph.D. and postdoctoral research at Kansas State University, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role.
Originally from southern Brazil, Dr. Faccin now resides in Manhattan, Kansas, with his wife Paula. He has a deep passion for swine nutrition, production, research, and innovation. His journey in the field began with a veterinary medicine degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, where he focused on reproduction research and boar semen analysis in commercial swine operations.
Following his degree, Dr. Faccin spent four years at BRF–Brasil Foods, contributing to health and management initiatives across sow farms, GDUs, nurseries, and finishers. In 2017, he earned a master’s degree under Dr. Fernando Bortolozzo at UFRGS, where he led a collaborative project aimed at improving nursery management through academia-industry partnerships.
Dr. Faccin’s Ph.D. work, conducted jointly at UFRGS and Kansas State University under Dr. Mike Tokach, involved extensive field trials with over 3,600 pigs in both Brazil and Minnesota. His research emphasized management and nutrition strategies tailored to pigs of different weaning ages, along with the critical impact of early nursery practices on long-term performance.
During his postdoctoral tenure at Kansas State, Dr. Faccin further honed his expertise in nutrition research, teaching, and swine diet formulation. His publications cover a broad spectrum of topics, including soybean meal inclusion for nursery and finishing pigs, alternative feed additives, and gilt development nutrition. Additionally, he played a key role in the Biosecure Ingredient Imports plan under the U.S. Swine Health Improvement Plan (U.S. SHIP).
In addition to his academic and professional accomplishments, Dr. Faccin is the host of SuinoCast, Brazil’s pioneering podcast for the swine industry, and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Jamil Faccin join our team,” said Mark Hulsebus, sales and portfolio director at Alltech. “His extensive background in swine nutrition and management will greatly enhance our ability to serve our customers with advanced insights and innovative solutions.”
Dr. Faccin’s addition to Alltech underscores the company’s commitment to advancing swine nutrition and production practices, ensuring that producers have access to the latest research and technical expertise.
