
South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension has welcomed Rafe Royall as its new assistant professor and SDSU Extension Swine Specialist. Based at the SDSU campus in Brookings, Royall will focus on delivering the latest research to South Dakota swine producers while promoting the benefits of pork production and consumption.
Royall, a Texas native, holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Texas Tech University and earned both his master’s and doctorate degrees in animal science from Kansas State University. His experience spans multiple roles in the swine industry, including work with Beyers Farms Texas, Texas Pork Producers, Kansas State University, and JBS Live Pork, where he managed a research team overseeing a 7,500-head sow farm.
Excited to engage with South Dakota pork producers, Royall highlighted their dedication and leadership within the industry. SDSU Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Senior Program Leader Sandy Smart praised Royall’s academic and practical expertise, emphasizing the positive impact he will have on the region’s swine sector.
