Perspectives and Stories from the Farm, By Pork Producer Wanda Patsche

Farm Updates

This year has been challenging due to excessive rains leading to inconsistent crop conditions. Some fields are thriving, while others are completely underwater. One of our fields is half submerged, and we’re trusting God as we navigate these difficulties.

Currently, we are selling hogs. The hog industry is struggling, with national reports indicating a need for further sow herd liquidation, forcing many farmers out of the industry, which is sad.

Next Steps

As we consider our future, deciding the fate of our hog operation is tough. There is little interest in purchasing hog farms right now. We are exploring different options, though our situation is not unique among farmers facing similar challenges.

Politics

I typically avoid politics due to its divisive nature. We must relearn how to disagree respectfully. Recent events, like the attack on Donald Trump, highlight the need for reduced rhetoric and increased civility. I appreciate the idea of a young VP running with Trump to bring fresh perspectives.
